Interhack, Mallory & Tsibouris Announce HIPAA Security Seminars
Seminars to Offer Attendees Legal and Information Security Advice on Implementing HIPAA Security Rule
Columbus, Ohio, May 4, 2004 -- Interhack Corporation, a provider of information assurance research and solutions, and the law firm of Mallory & Tsibouris today announced that they have joined forces to offer informational seminars on the legal and technical aspects of implementing the HIPAA Security Rule. The one-day HIPAA Security Rule Implementation Seminars will take place throughout Ohio, beginning June 1 at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The seminars provide administrators, compliance officers and information technology staff with a better understanding of HIPAA legal obligations and technical strategies that can be implemented to ensure compliance. They provide insight on how the various standards impact one another and offer examples of how privacy and information security breaches have impacted other industries.
“A breach of security becomes a breach of privacy,” said Peter Hazelton, a privacy and e-commerce attorney with Mallory & Tsibouris.
“The HIPAA Security Rule means potential liability for any organization doing business in the healthcare industry. These seminars will provide essential information on the meaning of HIPAA liability and technical expertise on implementing the strategies needed to avoid fines or litigation.”
“Addressing legal compliance issues is critical, but it is only part of the solution,” said Matt Curtin, founder of Interhack. “Hiding from attackers and hoping for the best is simply not a viable option anymore. The right combination of technology and law is required to balance risk, utility and expense associated with information assurance initiatives. With the expertise of both Mallory & Tsibouris and Interhack, seminar attendees will leave with a realistic roadmap for compliance success.”
The HIPAA Security Rule Implementation Seminars are offered in four different modules: Understanding HIPAA and Liability; Administrative Safeguards; Physical Safeguards; Technical Safeguards.
Seminar locations and registration details are as follows:
June 1 | Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio |
June 16 | Ohio University, Athens, Ohio |
