Despite its rich history, cryptography has only recently come into common use. Widespread availability of cryptography has a tremendous impact on the safety and integrity of modern information systems, both in their ability to repel attacks and in the ability of attackers to avoid detection and prosecution. We will discuss what cryptography can and cannot do for attackers and defenders. Special attention will be given to how cryptography affects forensic analysis.

The one-hour talk was delivered at noon on March 11, 2002, at Battelle Memorial Institute for the Centeral Ohio chapter of InfraGard. PDF slides are available.
