Columbus, OH—Computer science expert Matthew Curtin discusses Incident Response case study at the quarterly meeting of the Northern Ohio Chapter of InfraGard on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 8:00 A.M. at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) facility in Richfield, Ohio.

Curtin presents a case study examining how a $3 billion organization found a domain administrator account that appeared to be connected with a key $300 million project. When the leadership of that project did not know about the account, the organization's incident response team took action. In this case study Curtin considers how the organization used its internal and external resources to manage a response, analyzing log data, managing the spread of the backdoor with anti-malware tools, and analyzing dozens of machines forensically to find the person responsible for the privilege escalation.

Matthew Curtin is the Founder of the computer expert firm Interhack. He works extensively in the area of incident response and litigation involving electronic data. As an expert witness, he has provided opinion used by federal and state courts to understand the meaning of electronic information.
