"Bad information security advice is
plentiful," commented Matt Curtin, founder of

compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule."
HIPAA-SECURITY is intended to act as a
gathering place of Security Rule implementors
from across all parts of the country affected
by HIPAA.
Topics expected to be covered in the forum
include:
- Risk assessment strategies
- Alignment of HIPAA Security implementation
and general information security objectives
- Handling of "addressable" implementation
specifications
- Evaluation of threat mitigation mechanisms
About HIPAA and the Security Rule
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996
(HIPAA) is having a dramatic impact on the way that health
providers, insurers, and others are handling information. The
"Security Rule" defines administrative, physical, and technical
safeguards that must be used to protect electronic protected
health information. Released in final form in February 2003,
the Rule will be enforced starting in February 2005.
