Interhack founder Matt Curtin will deliver a talk at
the
2003
Emerging Trends in Fraud conference to
be held in Columbus, Ohio, and presented by theAuditor
of State, Central Ohio Chapter of Certified Fraud
Examiners, and the Ohio Investigators Association.
Abstract
Fraud detection and prevention have historically been
the responsibility of financial managers. With the
rise of electronic information systems (IS), crimes of
fraud have evolved, including methods that are now
part of the domain of IS managers. Successful
identification and prevention of fraud committed with
the aid of IS requires the expertise of both financial
and IS managers, working together.
Critical first steps in getting professionals of such
diverse backgrounds working together include:
- A common vocabulary,
- An understanding of the goals and methods of fraud
prevention,
- An understanding of the capabilities and
limitations of information technology.
This talk argues for education of IS managers by fraud
experts and discusses some of the present capabilities
and limitations in information systems.
Ample time will exist for questions and answers.
