THE IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH

Study is one of the most basic of human endeavors and is the means by which we make progress.

Interhack isn't content just to be "billable", or even only in doing interesting work for our clients. Frankly, a lot of the poking around that we do doesn't have a lot of direct applicability to our clients today. These things -- the Internet itself being an excellent example -- take time to make ready for prime time.

So what is the value of our activity in the research space to our clients? Dealing with issues long before they're "issues" makes us better prepared to deal with them when the time finally comes. We understand the problems and which avenues seem to hold the most promising solutions because in research we have the luxury of studying these problems without having to deliver a presentation on our findings the day after we first hear about the problem.

Interhack's business areas -- research, development, and consulting -- play well into each other. Our research enables us to make better products and better solutions. Feedback from users of our tools helps us to recognize their limitations, prompting us to look into ways to solve them. Actively consulting helps us to stay in touch with the people who need to use these systems on a day to day basis.

The end result is that our solutions are better and our research is more practical.
