What We Believe

GOOD NEIGHBORS

We don't just say we're committed to being good neighbors. Online and offline, we volunteer our time and money to benefit the community.

Here are some of the organizations that benefit from our time and money.

USENIX -- The Advanced Computing Association
Supporting member.
USENIX is the Advanced Computing Systems Association. Since 1975 the USENIX Association has brought together the community of engineers, system administrators, scientists, and technicians working on the cutting edge of the computing world.
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra
Supporting member.
Now in its 50th year of operation, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra has attained a high degree of artistic excellence and breadth of programming, evolving from a part-time community ensemble to a fully professional group, ranking as one of the top 30 orchestras in America as defined by budget size.
InfraGard -- National Information Protection Center

InfraGard is an information sharing and analysis effort serving the interests and combining the knowledge base of a wide range of members. At its most basic level, InfraGard is a cooperative undertaking between the U.S. Government (led by the FBI and the NIPC) and an association of businesses, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated to increasing the security of United States critical infrastructures.

Free to the Internet community from our research web site.
Usenet

Speaking
Some of our recent appearances include WBNS-10TV Columbus (local CBS and CNN affiliate), Columbus Dispatch, Columbus INFOSEC Forum, Information System Security Association (ISSA, Central Ohio Chapter), Information System Audit and Control Association (ISACA, Central Ohio Chapter), Privacy by Design 2001, Privacy2001, CNNfn (CNN Financial News), InfraGard, Ohio State University's Security Working Group (SECWOG), US Department of Energy (InterLab 2k Conference, Los Alamos National Laboratory), Central Ohio Linux User Group (COLUG), c|net news and radio, and others. You get the idea.

And of course, being from the Internet's Old School, we recognize the importance and value of free software -- both that provided gratis and that whose source code is, well, part of the literature of computer science.

Some highlights of our work along these lines includes:

rcpp-mode, a customized environment for developing RESOLVE/C++ code.
Used at The Ohio State University's Computer and Information Science department in both research and in the core of its undergraduate education.
Shibboleth, a security and privacy aware mailing list manager.
Originally a research project to see how well a group that wishes to keep to itself can do so, Shibboleth is now being developed in the open on SourceForge and is available to all.
Numerous utilities and programs.
Our research site has a large number of free utilities available for download. These range in function from small web server utilities to system administration utilities, tools for software development to free electronic texts available for easy viewing.
